17. The Counselor

If you aren’t excited about this movie, you might be dead inside. Featuring Javier Bardem, Michael Fassbender, Penelope Cruz, Natalie Dormer, Rosie Perez, John Leguizamo, Bruno Ganz, Brad Pitt and Cameron Diaz, The Counselor is based off a Cormac McCarthy script and directed by Ridley Scott. What’s not to like? Interestingly, of all the pedigree folks in it, Cameron Diaz is supposed to be the standout. Diaz is superb when given something to do other than be pretty (see: Being John Malkovich, Vanilla Sky), and I’d love to see some overdue recognition for an actress few take seriously.

Fun fact: Did you know Diaz was thiiis close to being nominated for an Oscar for Vanilla Sky? She got nods at all the precursor awards but got bumped out of the final five. The more you know.
