4. Inside Llewyn Davis

Another Cannes favorite, Inside Llewyn Davis is rumored to be one of the Coens’ best ever, a brutal and slightly misanthropic exploration of the New York folk scene in the 1960s. Led by Drive’s Oscar Isaac, who did all his own singing, the film is strongly cast (with Carey Mulligan, John Goodman and Justin Timberlake, among others) and features a flawless period evocation of Greenwich Village. The trailer gives me tingles literally every time I watch it.
