16. Nebraska

Nebraska kind of sounds like every Alexander Payne movie — featuring road trips, fathers and sons and small-town life — but from Payne, that’s not a bad thing. I’ve loved every Alexander Payne movie I’ve watched so far (even Citizen Ruth), and Nebraska drew raves at Cannes, particularly for Bruce Dern’s performance. It also features the dramatic debut of Will Forte, so I’ll show up purely out of morbid curiosity. Yes, MacGruber is going to be in an Oscar movie, and yes, the world may be ending.
