19. Under the Skin

To be quite honest, I have no fucking idea what to make of Jonathan Glatzer’s latest, which looks like Species as directed by David Lynch. The movie was wildly divisive in festival screenings, hailed as either a disaster or a masterpiece. The latter judgment seems to be more popular amongst early reviews, who hailed it as elliptically mesmerizing, with a strong performance from Scarlett Johansson. I loved Glatzer’s Sexy Beast but hated, hated, hated Birth, so we’ll see which side this falls on. Being that the movie was set to debut years ago, I’m just happy the damn thing is finally out.
