Interrogating him. You shouldn’t feel the need to question him as soon as he walks through the door. If you expect the worst from him, then why are you with him?

If you want my attention, then you’re going to have to put in effort. Real effort. You have to do more than press a button or two on your phone. A text just isn’t enough.

You should be happy to treat him. To make him feel special. To make him feel spoiled.

Ignoring you when friends are around. If he treats you like a goddess when you’re alone together, and then treats you like trash as soon as other people enter the picture, then he’s not the good guy you thought he was. He’s just another asshole.

Brushing up against you. Even if we’re on a crowded bus, we’ll find a way to create our own personal space if we don’t like you. And if we do like you, we’ll make sure to rest our arms, or our thighs, up against yours.

Getting along with his mother. Your relationship with her will impact your relationship with him.

You shouldn’t have to fish for compliments. If you get a new haircut, he should notice. If you wear a new dress, he should tell you how beautiful you look in it.

Grabbing a cup of coffee in the middle of the workday to talk about your favorite TV shows, friend gossip, and weekend plans.

I might be able to hold myself back from texting you, but it doesn’t matter, because I’ll end up liking one of your statuses or commenting on a picture or watching one of your Snapchat stories. That small, seemingly meaningless gesture lets you know I’m thinking of you. It gives my feelings away.

You use humor as a shield. When he says something super sweet, you’ll roll your eyes instead of telling him how adorable he is. You’re more comfortable with sarcasm than sentimentalism.

“You have no idea how beautiful you are.”
