You shouldn’t just see Wadjda because it’s good. You should see it because it’s important. The first Saudi Arabia-set film from a female director, Wadjda is a landmark in international cinema. Like Turtles Can Fly, this is a movie about childhood functions both as an intelligent drama and a necessary political statement. Although Wadjda’s tone is subtle, its politics are bravely feminist. This is a movie with the power to change the world.
