Rumi became a popular 13th-century Persian poet after influence from both his father and a holy man named Shams. Baha’ al-Din Walad, Rumi’s father, was a noted theologian teacher who influenced Rumi into becoming the Islamic scholar, that he was. Around 1244, Rumi met Shams al-Din. They grew close and lived together, and during that time, Shams taught Rumi a lot about beauty and divine majesty. Rumi’s work is highly influenced by Sham’s wisdom.
