I wanted him to be nominated for Magic Mike last year, a critical favorite performance, but c’est la vie. However, he will get a very overdue nomination for Dallas Buyers’ Club, an Oscar-friendly movie in which McConaughey plays a man with HIV desperate to get treatment. In his late career, McConaughey has quietly become one of the more prolific character actors in Hollywood — with acclaimed roles in Mud, The Lincoln Lawyer, Bernie and Killer Joe. At this rate, he’ll become the Christopher Walken of his generation.
