10. Greta Gerwig: Best Actress

Gerwig broke out in last year’s Damsels in Distress, the criminally underrated return of Whit Stillman, and she’ll likely go unrecognized again in Noah Baumbach’s delightful dramedy. Gerwig puts her daffy energy to its best use yet in a film she co-wrote with Baumbach. Gerwig is pure Carol Lombard here, a naturally gifted comedienne with crack comic timing. The movie might feel laxly paced, but Gerwig is effortlessly at home in it, a charming ramble of a movie that’s just like life.
