When You're A Skeptic And Accidentally Stumble Upon The Love Of Your Life

When You’re A Skeptic And Accidentally Stumble Upon The Love Of Your Life

When you’re a skeptic, you get used to the idea of spending the rest of your life alone. You roll your eyes at couples. You badmouth marriage. You act like you’re better off staying single because it helps you protect your heart and maintain your freedom.

You don’t see the point of relationships because they always seem to end badly. That’s why you try your hardest not to grow attached. You try not to care too much about anyone other than yourself. You build a life around your skepticism.

When you’re a skeptic who accidentally stumbles across the love of your life, you don’t know how to handle the new emotions. You should probably be happy, excited, grateful — but you’re mostly scared.

You never planned for this to happen. You never wanted this to happen. You’re not sure how to open your heart to someone else, how to be a good girlfriend, how to make room in your world for someone other than yourself.

When you’re a skeptic and you accidentally stumble across the love of your life, it throws your universe into complete chaos. It completely changes your worldview. You have a hard time coping with the fact you’ve found someone who gets you, someone who loves you, someone you genuinely believe would never hurt you, when you spent your whole life convincing yourself that was never going to happen.

No one will let you forget you were wrong, either. When you’re a skeptic and you accidentally stumble across the love of your life, people will throw old comments you made back in your face. You said you never wanted to get married. You said you never wanted to be one of those mushy couples. You said you liked being single.

Other people will look at you like you were lying the whole time – which is not true at all. You were telling the truth at the time. You never expected someone to come into your life and change the way you think about love and relationships, but it happened. Your person sparked a change in you.

When you’re a skeptic and you accidentally stumble across the love of your life, there is an adjustment period. You have to retrain the way you think. You have to stop making the dark jokes you used to make about relationships because you’re not sure if you believe them anymore.

You have to find a way to cope with two competing realities: the side of you that thinks love is a lie and the side of you that is completely head over heels in love.

When you’re a skeptic and you accidentally stumble across the love of your life, you don’t know what to do with yourself. You don’t know whether you were wrong before and should give this love thing a shot — or whether you are wrong right now and are getting blinded by your feelings.

When you’re a skeptic and you accidentally stumble across the love of your life, it’s absolutely terrifying. But it’s also a thrill. Thought Catalog Logo Mark
