14 Things All Healthy Couples Do

1. Share the shower.

When your relationship advances, you eventually begin taking showers together. You scrub each other’s backs and sometimes even shampoo and condition each other’s hair. Those brave foot-massaging gals might even scrub the guy’s feet with a body scrub.

2. Pop each other’s pimples.

Girls, you know our men notice our blemishes and vice versa. Sometimes you even search each other for those pesky clogged pores and pop them for the one you love. Some see it as gross; others see it as helpful. Just be sure not to punch one another when one really hurts!

3. Make fast-food runs at 2AM.

My boyfriend and I love going to Jack in the Box for tacos at 2AM when we can’t sleep and want a snack. Boyfriends and girlfriends do this as a sort of bonding exercise. We also do it because we’re super-hungry.

4. Binge-watch TV shows.

When one person falls for a TV show, we get our significant other into it. Before you both know it, you’ve watched all eight seasons of Dexter on Netflix together

5. Watch the same TV show while you’re in different places.

You’ll both be watching a show (maybe he’s at work and you’re at home) and text each other back and forth—sometimes you’ll even call—to assure you ARE watching it.

6. Occupy certain positions and sides of the bed.

What couple doesn’t have designated sides of the bed? Couples understand their love’s need for a quality night’s sleep. In my case, he sleeps on the right side closest to the alarm and I sleep on the left a lot of times against the wall with a pillow to snuggle with when it gets too hot to snuggle with him. In the morning he’s usually down on the floor or halfway there, as I am now taking up all of the bed.

Height/length has NOTHING to do with this! Physics in a sense no longer applies as your tiny petite body has now managed to push the bigger mass of a man nearly over the edge.

7. Use the bathroom together.

This happens when one is in the shower and the other has got to go. I’ve met a lot of couples who simply don’t care and will look at each other, but it seems more of them have my situation to where the person in the shower turns away but will still talk with you.

There is the no taking of dumps in front of each other, however. That’s just a big NO.

8. Snuggle.

Guys, be honest: You like to snuggle with your girl as much as she enjoys it. And girls, let’s be honest: He can’t do it all night.

When you fall asleep while snuggling there is always a point in the night where he has either sneakily removed his arm or you both wake up and move at the same time; but when you’re rolled facing your sides, there’s usually a leg or two touching each other. This shows that they love you and love snuggling with you, but it just isn’t prudent for that night.

9. Pick where and what to eat together.

When our guy asks where and what we wanna eat, girls need to stop saying, “I don’t care” or (if options are given) “Either way is fine.” Your man KNOWS this is a lie! He will 70% of the time ALREADY know what you’ll pick, but on the off chance you’re having cravings, he won’t make the final decision. And when he says you will go to this place or that, this is your man picking somewhere JUST to see what your reaction will be.

If he loves you, he will easily pick up on your pattern of restaurant choosing.

10. Make each other laugh.

Making your lover laugh is very important. Understanding their sense of humor, how to perk them up on a down day…there’s nothing sweeter, right? No matter what they’re going through, they’re going to need you to make them smile so they know that it’ll all be all right.

11. Change clothes in front of each other.

Whether you live together or not, there is always a point where you change in front of your guy or gal. Finding socks for the other person, helping zip or fix something…it’s really helpful to have them there, especially when you aren’t sure if you’re looking good or not.

12. Tolerate Aunt Flo.

Periods. Physically and emotionally painful for women, emotionally (and physically sometimes) for guys. When your Aunt Flo comes to visit, the first three days are the worst! When your guy is dedicated, he doesn’t take the yelling, crying, random insults, and angry demands to heart. They understand you’re a whole different person off and on. And they always ask if you need something: Do you want chocolate? Do you have tampons? Compress warm enough? Feel sick?

But ladies, we all know that when yours ends, HIS begins. Be honest, men: The three days after the fact are pretty rough on you. You have a lot of pent-up frustration and stress from handling her crankiness. You may not bleed, but you’re pretty emotional yourself and can even get random cravings.

And just as you were patient and sweet with us, we will do the same.

13. Choose good topics for date night.

Date night is a wonderful thing. You get dressed up (even if it’s just to go to Chili’s or Outback), do your hair; your man trims his beard, gels up his hair (in a good way) and looks so handsome in his leather jacket!

But once you sit down for food, what topic comes to mind? For all couples it’s different. However, I’ve interviewed couples who have had the same random topics: new shows to watch, gossip at work, gossip about friends, family issues, vacation ideas, and my own and favorite topic: cannibalism. Don’t ask me how we came to the topic because I have NO idea!

14. Make pillow talk.

I don’t mean the sort of intimate pillow talk for those with a dirty mind. (You know who you are!) I mean the conversations you share at the end of a long day when you lay down together. You ask how each other’s day was and how they’ve been feeling. And then you fall asleep in each other’s arms. Thought Catalog Logo Mark
