This Is The Subconscious Reason You’re Still Pushing People Away, Based On Your Zodiac Sign

God & Man

(March 21st to April 19th)

You don’t like them as much as you think you do.

With an Aries, emotion will often defy logic. When you can determine no “good” reason to dislike someone, you will be stymied by the fact that you just don’t click with the people that you so desperately want to. Sometimes, there isn’t a logical reason for this. Sometimes it just doesn’t make sense. Sometimes you aren’t pushing people away because of some internal defect of your own, but the simple fact that you aren’t listening to your feelings.

(April 20th to May 21st)

You fear they will hold you back.

Whether it’s a friendship or relationship or anything else, keeping others at an arm’s length is often a Taurus feeling afraid that they will be a poor influence, or at the very least, distract or discourage them from what they really want to accomplish in life. They aren’t wrong in this assumption – the people you spend your time with have an irrevocable impact on your quality of life, and sometimes ensuring that you only keep the right ones around is essential.

(May 22nd to June 21st)

You’re afraid to lose them.

Geminis are (ironically) the most straightforward when it comes to subconsciously pushing people away… it’s usually just that they fear the pain of losing a friendship or a partner, and when that fear starts to overshadow them, they push people away. However, this never lasts long. Geminis are social creatures, and need others to thrive. They ultimately settle into a “better to have loved and lost” mindset.

(June 22nd to July 22nd)

You’re afraid to be consumed by them.

Cancers push people away when they are intimidated by the strength of their feelings for them. In fact, a lot of introverted Cancers prefer to spend a lot of time by themselves just because of how over-stimulated they can be by other people – especially those they really care about. A Cancer only pushes when they are intimidated by the undeniable pull they feel deep down.

(July 23rd to August 22nd)

You’re afraid you’re not good enough for them.

To consider that a Leo, the sign known most for their unwavering self-confidence, could fear relationships because they actually question their own self-worth… almost makes too much sense. If a Leo is pushing people away, it’s usually because they are truly afraid that they are going to be pushed away first, and this is how they reclaim their power.

(August 23rd to September 22nd)

You’re afraid of hurting them.

It’s not that you’d ever go totally out of your way to maliciously hurt another person, just that Virgos have a tendency to be super honest and up front and sometimes really blunt… they care about people so deeply, and yet fear that their sometimes (unintentionally) insensitive ways could wreak havoc in the life of someone they love. A Virgo keeps their distance because they don’t want to mess up a good thing, and they don’t want to show their true colors – the ones they fear are just a little too raw in the first place.

(September 23rd to October 22nd)

You have some work that you need to do on yourself.

Libras, the most social signs of all, only pull away from other people when they need to enter a season of their lives in which they focus on their own growth. Libras often totally remove themselves from social groups when they know that they need to change, this is easier than disappointing some people, or incurring the disapproval of friends who want them to stay the same. Libras are constantly at odds between what they want and what they think other people want. They push them away when they know they must seriously focus on the former.

(October 23rd to November 22nd)

You’re using them for something other than love.

Scorpios are actually very committed and upfront people: when they love you, they will love you completely and forever. However, they shy away from people when they recognize that they only want to be with them to prove a point or enact revenge or look “cool.” Scorpios won’t commit to someone they don’t truly and completely love for the right reasons… and you’ll be surprised to know that underneath all the harsh exterior, there’s a very honest and true heart that wouldn’t ever hurt another person for their own gain.

(November 23rd to December 21st)

You feel dissatisfied with your life as it is.

Sagittarians push away from other people when they need to be alone to sort out their thoughts, reconnect to themselves, and really think about their lives and whether or not they are happy. Sags have a very hard time with being analytical and clear-minded when they’re saturated in other relationships and people. Therefore, they pull away when they know they need to do some serious introspection.

(December 22nd to January 20th)

You know you’ve set the bar too low.

Capricorns only isolate themselves then they realize that they don’t want to continue spending time with the people who they have been… but they also don’t know who else to move on toward. Caps have a weird habit of selling themselves too short, and eventually they wake up and realize they’re not really happy and need to make some serious changes, beginning with the company they keep.

(January 21st to February 18th)

You don’t feel understood.

Aquarians are not here to pity any fools, and will not continue to hang out with people who make them feel anymore isolated and odd than they already do. Aquarians have a deep and subconscious desire to feel seen and understood and loved for who they really are, and if they are pushing people away, it’s because they fear they won’t be truly accepted by them.

(February 19th to March 20th)

You’re ascribing intent to other people’s actions and motives.

Pisces push people away when they become convinced that they are going to hurt them in some intentional way that they’ll never recover from. Pisces are known to over-react, and take things way too personally. Though they love to be loved, they’d prefer the comfort of knowing they aren’t going to get hurt over the fear of being vulnerable any day. This is also why they are more comfortable expressing their feelings through other outlets, like art or music. Thought Catalog Logo Mark
