Someone Is Leaving Me Messages On An Answering Machine, But I Know For A Fact He’s Not Alive

The snow stuck back to the windshield and the world outside was blind to me again by the time I got up and started going to work on the emergency kit. I took a few deep breaths while I pried the thing open, unfolded the silver blanket and found pleasant surprise in seeing there were some hard candies and granola bars in the box.

Still starving from never actually getting to bite into that pizza which must have been congealing in the living room at this point, I tore into the candy and granola bar so feverishly I at first didn’t even notice there was a note written on college-ruled notebook paper below it. My mouth filled with stale granola and hard chocolate chips, I unfolded the note and felt my heart drop to my stomach.

Miranda –

I hope you never have to open this, but if you do, here is something almost as sweet as you to make your day better.

Love ya,

Dad
