Staying Single For A Large Gap Of Time Can Kill Your Confidence

Being single isn’t always easy — even when you’re an independent woman who realizes a relationship is not the cure to all her problems. Even when you understand there is nothing wrong with staying single. Even when a part of you is happy to be alone.

As strong as you are, there are times when your single status makes you feel insecure about yourself. There are times when it sucks to be alone.

When every single person you develop feelings for ends up dating someone else, it can kill your confidence.

When you get strung along for months, tricked into thinking you’re going to date someone, and then they turn around and break your heart, it can kill your confidence.

When you see the friends you grew up alongside posting about their romantic proposals and walking down the aisle, it can kill your confidence.

When you’re always the one who cares more, who puts in the most effort, who sends the first text, it can kill your confidence.

When you see people much younger than you getting married and having children, it can kill your confidence.

When you don’t get enough swipes on dating apps, it can kill your confidence.

When a first date doesn’t turn into a second, it can kill your confidence.

When you fall asleep in an empty bed for months at a time, it can kill your confidence.

When you spot happy couples holding hands and stealing kisses in public, it can kill your confidence.

When it’s been a while since you’ve been kissed, or you’ve never been kissed at all, it can kill your confidence.

When you find out the person you’ve had your eye on is already taken, it can kill your confidence.

When you send a text to someone you’re interested in seeing and they don’t bother to respond back, it can kill your confidence.

When another girl gets chosen instead of you, it can kill your confidence.

When you make a fool of yourself while flirting with someone attractive, it can kill your confidence.

When you get rejected, it can kill your confidence.

When you get stood up, it can kill your confidence.

When you get ghosted, it can kill your confidence.

When you feel like you’re the only person in the world who is still single, it can kill your confidence.

However, you have to remember your single status has absolutely no correlation with your value as a human being. Despite what the voice in the back of your head is telling you, you’re not unattractive and you’re not unlovable.

You are beautiful. Intelligent. Strong. Passionate. Fierce.

You’re eventually going to find someone who is excited to spend an eternity with you — and even if it takes a while for that to happen, it’s okay. You don’t need a relationship right now. Your single status might be upsetting from time to time, but you realize a relationship isn’t everything. Deep down, you realize how special you are. Thought Catalog Logo Mark
