I Hope When You Feel Empty, You Let Christ Fill You

I will not pretend that I know what you’re going through. I will not act as if I can feel your pain in my chest, or have experienced the wealth of brokenness that has knocked on your door. I will not say that I have the answers, or promise that I can bring you healing.

But I can promise you that my God can.

My God is incredible. He is the God that lifts people from their darkness. He is the God who brings light, who performs miracles, who sent his son to die for all of us, to give us freedom and peace.

My God is a God of compassion. He comforts the sick. He listens to prayers. He cares for the hungry and tired and gives strength to those who are weak.

My God is the Savior of the world, and know that might sound a little strange. I know that you might be sitting there, nose crinkled, brow furrowed, the very idea of believing in something unseen making you shake your head. Believe me, I understand. I was born into a Christian family, but it wasn’t until my twenties that I truly believed. I used to sit there, just like you: skeptical. Thinking how strange it was to trust a figure whom you can’t put a face to, a figure with a son who supposedly walked this earth hundreds and thousands of years ago. That seemed a little far-fetched, a little too perfect to be real.

But then I looked around and saw the beauty of the world. I opened my eyes to miracles, to my humanness, to the expanse of the sky and realized that there’s no way this all could have existed without it being created by someone more powerful than us.

And each of my quirks and flaws, each freckle on my skin, the pigment of my eyes, the way I laugh and my passion for writing—those things are uniquely me, and belong to no one else. And just in the sheer individuality of us all, it’s hard not to believe in something bigger.

And so I did. I gave my life to Christ.
And I was changed.

The pain of my past, my insecurity, my hopelessness, my failed attempts—they were healed in His name. The confusion and frustration, the unanswered questions, the doubts that constantly pressed on my spirit—I gave them to Him and found peace.

And so I invite you, wherever you are, to do the same. To give your life to the one who can save you. To the one who created you, who knows the number of hairs on your head and each of the cells in your body. The one who has memorized the sound of your laugh, all the way to the exact degree of your biggest smile.

Take your brokenness and put it upon His shoulders. Take your fears, your failures, your frustrations, your faults and let them dissipate in His holy name. Be free. Be filled.

I hope that you give your life to Him. That you let Him take control and shape you to His purpose. That you let Him guide you to the place where you are meant to be—a place of hope and happiness.

I hope that when you feel like you’re at the end of your rope, you’ll hang on, and you’ll reach for Him. And you’ll let Him pull you back on your feet to begin again.

I hope that you know you are loved, so deeply by God. By this man that you haven’t seen, but who created you, who knows you, who wants nothing more than to be in your life.

I hope you forgive yourself for your past mistakes, for the life you’ve lived without Him, for all that you’ve gone through and put others through, and know that in His grace, you are truly forgiven.

I hope you accept His sacrifice, His son, whose blood was shed for you, so that you could stop feeling the anxiety, the guilt, the agony of this life.

I hope that when you are empty, you let Christ’s love fill you. Let it fill you until you are overflowing. And let it never be emptied.

This world is a place off such majesty, but also such heartache. And this will always be the case, as hard as we try to avoid it. But in God, there is beauty. In God there are second chances. In God there are new beginnings and confidence and strength to continue.

So please reach for Him. Reach for a believer. Extend your hand and they will take it, they will hold it, they will guide it to Him and pray alongside you.

I want you to know something: You are not alone. And you are not irreparably broken, no matter what you have experienced.

Trust in the fact that there is a Father who loves you, who wants to heal you, who is looking out for you and calling you by name to come to Him.

Please go.

Let Him fill you.

Let Him rescue you.

Let Him show you how deeply you are loved.

Because you are, and always will be in His arms. TC mark
