10 Reasons Why Horror Addicts Should Not Miss An Episode Of ‘The Birch’

1. The Birch is going to be a fifteen episode series on Facebook Watch. The story will be told from multiple perspectives, but it will focus on the relationship between a monster protector who lives in the woods and a bullied teenager.

2. The Birch is based on a short film with the same title, which elegantly blends fantasy and horror. It was directed by Ben Franklin and Anthony Melton who also created Deathly Presents, a dark Christmas tale, and Don’t Move, which is about a game night gone horribly wrong.

3. The short film version of The Birch was screened at the Tribeca Film Festival and was received well. It also won a Webby for Best Drama: Individual Short or Episode in 2017.

4. The short film, which is under five minutes long, now appears on YouTube and has been watched more than thirteen million times.

5. Like the upcoming series, the movie follows a boy who is tormented at school. He summons an ancient being in the woods with a spellbound book passed down through his family. The sentient tree protects him from his bully. The conflict ends with blood.

6. The series is going to be produced by Jack Davis, Kate Krantz, and Darren Brandl from Crypt TV. Crypt TV is a digital network for monster movies and horror series. Their website says, “Our mission is to create culture changing monster stories that bring the world closer together.” They have begun to do that with Sunny Family Cult and The Look-See and they will continue with The Birch.

7. Blumhouse Productions is an investor in Crypt TV. Blumhouse Productions has produced some of the most famous horror films, such as Paranormal Activity, Insidious, The Purge, Oculus, Ouija, and Split.

8. In the short film the series is based on, the main character learns about the creature from his grandmother. On her deathbed, she hands him a book in order to keep him safe after she has passed. As she hands it to him, she says, “She will look after you, protect you, just as I have always done, just as she did for me.”

9. In the short film, the grandmother also says,”Some believe the forest cares for nothing but itself. That’s not true.” The Birch is more than a horror story. It is a reminder about the role nature can play in our lives. Anyone who helps the environment is helping themselves. Anyone who harms the environment is harming themselves.

10. The Birch is going to begin in early 2019. Judging by the high-quality of the original short film and the past productions by Crypt TV, you will not want to miss an episode. TC mark
