5 TV Character Duos Who Are The Literal Definition Of ‘Platonic Soulmates’

Platonic love matters just as much as romantic love, and these TV character duos are proof. Here are five TV character duos who are the literal definition of “platonic soulmates.”

1. Jake Peralta and Charles Boyle (Brooklyn Nine-Nine)

First up is Jake Peralta and Charles Boyle from Brooklyn Nine-Nine. The detective partners at Brooklyn’s 99th precinct are a prime example of platonic soulmates.

Despite their differences, Charles and Jake have sincere love, trust, and admiration for one another. But most importantly, they never try to change each other. Jake embraces Charles’ quirks while Charles literally worships the ground Jake walks on. Their dynamic is sincere and hilarious.

2. John Michael “J.D.” Dorian and Christopher Turk (Scrubs)

You can’t talk about platonic love without mentioning the bromance that is J.D. and Christopher Turk from the hit comedy series Scrubs.

Turk and J.D. had been best friends since college and continued their platonic love affair as interns at Sacred Heart. Throughout the series, J.D. and Turk only become closer and closer as they navigate their way through their internship, residency, and eventual attending roles.

(Fun fact! Zach Braff and Donald Faison are also best friends IRL and host a podcast together called Fake Doctors, Real Friends.)

3. Troy Barnes and Abed Nadir (Community)

You can’t have a Troy without an Abed. The hilarious BFFs from Community may have seemed like polar opposites at the beginning of the series, but it was soon obvious that Troy and Abed had the same imaginations and weird interests.

4. Meredith Grey and Cristina Yang (Grey’s Anatomy)

One of the most iconic platonic soulmate duos in television history has to be Grey’s Anatomy‘s Meredith Grey and Cristina Yang. They’re each other’s person. Meredith and Cristina always have each other’s back, no matter how difficult a situation may be (and given it’s a Shonda Rhimes show, there is plenty of tragedy for them to cope with).

5. Joey Tribbiani and Chandler Bing (Friends)

Joey and Chandler are more than just roommates; they’re also best friends. In fact, when Chandler moves in with Monica, they even have a designated “Joey room” in their house. No matter what, they’re always be there for one another.
