When You Feel Like You’re Waiting For Something That Will Never Happen

You sleep, you eat, you have your routine.

It feels as though time has stopped. The batteries in your clock have died and the screen on your iPhone has frozen.

The sun rises as the moon hides, yet you’re still in the same, dull place as yesterday. The credits roll and the music keeps playing; but for you, the movie isn’t over. Not yet.

When you feel like you’re waiting for something that will never happen, it’s like the universe is keeping you from moving from that very spot.

You try to distract yourself with work, friends, and mediocre Tinder dates. You try to take up new hobbies and get creative.

You try to fulfill your life with as much excitement as you can, because you can’t stand to allow your mind to wander where it usually does — to that thing you’re waiting for to happen, the one that never will.

When you feel like you’re waiting for something that will never happen
, your mind holds out more hope each day while your heart breaks more with the very thought of reality.

You fight yourself every night as you tell yourself to get a grip and move on. You comfort yourself every morning as you wake up to a new morning, maybe the one in which the miracle will happen.

You aimlessly scroll down the screen of your phone without paying attention and you force yourself to fall asleep to pass the time. You sift through your workday like a soulless drone and you struggle for the energy to cook yourself a nice meal at the end of the day.

When you feel like you’re waiting for something that will never happen, your life seems more like a long, cold winter even when the seasons change and the trees’ leaves color the sky.

You see the beauty but you don’t feel it. You smell the crisp welcome of fall but you don’t feel welcome at all.

You drink the iced tea but you’re not refreshed. You treat yourself to some new wardrobe, but you’re no different in diamonds. You hear the music, but you don’t listen to the lyrics. You pay your rent but you’re not living.

When you feel like you’re waiting for something that will never happen
, you’re screaming at the top of your lungs but no one hears you.

You’re running as fast as you can but you’re not going anywhere. You’re hoping someone notices you but it’s as if you’re not there at all and you’re invisible.

You know what you want, but you can’t get it. The ball is not in your court, it’s in someone else’s. You have nothing else to do but wait — wait for something that may never happen.

If only you had a genie in a bottle or a shooting star. If only wishes came true at 11:11 or when you blow on a dandelion.

When you feel like you’re waiting for something that will never happen
, you’re scared of what the future might hold. In your heart you know it won’t happen but maybe this will be the year your birthday wish comes true.

When you feel like you’re waiting for something that will never happen
, you want to give up but you won’t, because it’s only everything you’ve ever wanted.

When you feel like you’re waiting for something that will never happen
, you see yourself the happiest person you can be if you got it. You know it would be worth the wait, so you wait anyway.

When you feel like you’re waiting for something that will never happen
, you remember that patience is key. Patience is a virtue; and patience is bitter but the fruit is sweet.

When you feel like you’re waiting for something that will never happen, you begin to tell yourself you’re moving on. You force yourself. You try so hard. You try not to think about it and you go about your day. You feel those around you and you laugh at your friends’ jokes.

You enjoy the first snow of winter and take in the sunset at night. Then it hits you again like the seasonal cold. You can’t help it. It is what it is.

When you feel like you’re waiting for something that will never happen, you feel like you’ll be waiting forever. TC mark
