Apple TV+’s latest series Palm Royale premiered on March 20 to widespread audience acclaim (despite the more polar responses from critics — with some deeming it an all-style-no-substance, one-note production). The 1969-set series features an all-star ensemble led by the comedic genius Kristen Wiig and includes Allison Janney, Laura Dern, Ricky Martin, Leslie Bibb, Josh Lucas, and a comatose Carol Burnett (for now).

Wiig plays a former pageant queen who will do all in her power to enter the ranks of the high society women who live in Palm Beach. They spend their time at luncheons and charity events — decked out in designer gowns — raising money for worthwhile causes. They feign communal altruism as a cover for their competitive, judgmental, and vain personalities. Wiig is a have-not, but she is technically related to a have..she just doesn’t have the money yet since Burnett’s character has yet to kick the bucket…
