It’s always never enough – stability, wealth, sleep, happiness, time, people, and love, amongst other things.

Perhaps, it’s simply part of human nature to unceasingly find ways to keep evolving, to consistently reach milestones, progressively expand our horizons, and to seek meaning in our lives. But sometimes, no matter how great your day went or how extraordinary your life has been, there will always be times when we find ourselves still feeling empty – a void that seems impossible to be ever filled.

But why aren’t we ever truly satisfied? Maybe, it comes from our need to always attain perfection, to be accepted, to belong, and to never settle. Although, it’s not entirely unhealthy to aim for more in life since doing so allows us to grow holistically, but there are certain limitations to self-actualization.

We constantly live our lives searching for contentment and meaning, oftentimes in the superficial things, unlikeliest of places, and the wrong people – ending up further dissatisfied and irreparably broken.

Every so often, our hunger to have-it-all pushes us to personally set unrealistic expectations, compare our lives to others, and spend majority of our time on things that are temporary – ultimately losing ourselves in the process.

There are thousands of strangers from all walks of life we cross paths with on a daily basis. Out of all the hundreds of people we meet and the relationships we build in our lifetime, we undervalue the most important of all – our relationship with ourselves.

For some reason, we’re consumed by the idea that the only way out of the void is to be saved by another soul. We like to put our faith in people; hoping that they could heal the broken parts and fill the empty spaces of our hearts. Time and again, we have to remember that the only person we can count on to save us from drifting into oblivion is ourselves.

Most of us encounter difficulties coming to terms with solitude. We are tremendously afraid of being alone simply because we are unhappy – emotionally, mentally, and physically.

No matter where you go, how loved you are, and what you have in life, none of it will compensate for the emptiness you feel inside if you are not at peace with yourself. What you feel on the inside will manifest on the outside, so be mindful of the thoughts you choose to lead your life by. We could only profoundly love our life and appreciate everything we have been blessed with if we begin with ourselves.

Invest in life experiences, cultivate your passions, and explore what the world has to offer on your own. Find your own bliss and let it radiate love everywhere you go.

We have become fixated on the mindset that genuine happiness can only be found beyond ourselves. Sometimes, we don’t realize that what we needed all along was to love ourselves to make us whole. We often go to great lengths to find the missing piece that will fill the cracks in our lives seamlessly. When in fact, all we had to do was look within ourselves.

When you love yourself unconditionally, you will never have to live another day looking for validation elsewhere.

You alone will always be more than enough. Thought Catalog Logo Mark
