You might feel like you’ve reached your breaking point. You might feel like giving up. You might feel like you can’t handle another heartache, another disappointment, another day.

But you are going to get through this.

You are going to make it through today and then you are going to make it through tomorrow.

You might feel weak right now, because your pillows are tear stained or your body feels numb — but you are secretly stronger than you realize, because you are still breathing. You are still surviving. You are still alive, even though it seems like the entire world has been against you lately.

Even though you have been struggling, you are still here. You might have scars. You might have baggage. You might have less than you want. But you are here. And that is something to be proud of accomplishing. That is something you should never take lightly.

You are probably sick of hearing it gets better because it seems like things keep getting worse.

But here is the truth about that phrase, not the sugarcoated version: Things suck right now. And things are going to continue to suck for a little while. Your world won’t change overnight. Your sadness won’t disappear magically when you wake up in the morning.

There are going to continue to be days when you struggle to rise from bed. Days when you scream until your voice cracks. Days when you want the pain to disappear and do whatever it takes to get rid of it.

But over time, things will become a little less horrible. You will learn how to deal with your pain a little easier. You will learn how to smile a little wider and dream a little bigger.

One day, you are going to realize that you feel good. Not fine. Not okay. Good. Happy. Better.

Of course, healing isn’t a linear path. Tomorrow you might feel slightly better — and the next day you might feel worse again. That doesn’t mean that you are falling back toward rock bottom. It just means you had a bad day. Everyone has bad days. You can’t let them stop you from continuing to grow. To heal.

Right now, you might feel like there is no hope for you. But if you stick around for long enough, things will change. Things will get better.

One day, you are going to wake up inside of a home where you feel comfortable, beside a person who loves you like the stars.

One day, you are going to love yourself for who you authentically are instead of collecting more and more reasons to hate yourself.

One day, you are going to learn how to handle your problems without a bottle or needle or razor blade to guide you.

One day, you are going to look back on the pain you experienced and realize how strong you were for making it through so much bullshit.

One day, you are going to be thankful that you kept hanging on, because your life will form into everything you’ve ever wanted. Thought Catalog Logo Mark
