We spend entire months eagerly counting down to summer’s arrival. We get hungry for it, fantasizing about watermelon coolers and all the time spent lounging by the pool. We’re looking at our swimsuits in the closet and salivating at the thought of when we can finally don them.
It’s incredibly easy to get lost in the idea of summer. It’s incredibly easy to get lost in how badly we want the ease of sun, of relaxation, of lazy days. But before you know it, summer will appear.
And what you do with it is up to you.
Summer is often a season of go-go-go. People are having barbecues, or rushing to attend every event they can get their hands on. Planned vacations are finally here and everything is chaos. The good kind. The fun kind.
But summer, as all seasons do, will come and go with a quickness you don’t quite expect. Sometimes, slowing down and taking your time to drink a chilled Tito’s American Mule, remembering why you were so excited for summer to begin, is a serious necessity.
Sometimes, you just need to slow down and remember why this counts. Summer is when everything you’ve been dreaming of is finally here. Summer is when all those ideas you’ve been holding close to your heart during the colder months can finally happen. At the risk of sounding grossly cheesy, it’s okay to stop and smell the flowers. It’s okay to take your time.
Summer is when everything is maximized. Summer is when you’ve got the time to appreciate what’s around you. Remember that. There is no need to rush. There is no need to speed by what should last. Right now, you’re here. Right now, you’re enjoying the beauty of what’s around you. Summer is when you should reflect. Summer is when you should soak up not just the sun, but everything you’ve been thinking of. Summer is when everything is hot and wonderful, and I hope you take advantage.
Summer is when cherries taste better and vodka is a solid chaser. Summer is when friends can stay over longer than they should and the ones you love are within an arm’s reach. Summer is when things are good. Summer is when things are great.
Nothing lasts forever, so slow down while you can. Summer disappears as fast as it appears, so take your time. Enjoy it. Cherish it. Let it linger on your tongue. Remember, summer is a time to love everything you’ve got, so love it.
