This Woman’s Facebook Post About How To Love Someone With Anxiety Is Heartbreakingly Accurate

Mental illness is something a lot of us deal with, though it’s not something a lot of us are open about. It’s hard to talk about our demons with our loved ones, especially when you don’t know exactly how they’ll act.

But this woman made a Facebook post about living with anxiety and exactly what it takes to love someone dealing with these issues.

The woman, Callie Theodore, started with a quote about loving someone with anxiety before writing her own thoughts on the matter:

It’s hard loving someone who suffers from anxiety. They will be over sensitive, they will make up scenarios in their head causing an argument, and constant reassurance is needed.

Find yourself someone who doesn’t make you feel like loving you is a job. Someone who will assure of you the little things. Someone who doesn’t tell you that you’re overreacting. Someone that will rock you on the floor in the dead middle of an anxiety attack. Find someone that no matter how hard you push them- they do not leave.

She shared this conversation with her boyfriend, Chris Briggs, showing that sometimes people with anxiety need affirmation to remind them that everything is OK, even if it doesn’t always feel like it is.

Theodore reminded everyone that there are people in the world who will love you despite your anxiety, even though it may not always feel possible.

There are people out there like that. People that calm you and bring you a sense of security- that will be stronger than any dose of medication that can be prescribed.

You may have anxiety, but anxiety doesn’t have you.

Briggs has also been vocal about mental illness and how it affects people. He made a YouTube video about his own experiences with depression and anxiety and how we’re all battling with our own demons.

Briggs is right — we’re all dealing with something. Nobody’s life is perfect. The best we can do is love each other despite all those imperfections. Thought Catalog Logo Mark
