Wolf Creek (2005) is a scary backwoods horror movie about a serial killer terrorizing backpackers in the Australian Outback. The film spawned a sequel, Wolf Creek 2, and a television series, Wolf Creek. Now, a long discussed third Wolf Creek movie is finally in pre-production at Cineverse.
First, what is Wolf Creek (2013) all about? The movie purports to be based on a true story, and parts of the story do resemble real crimes committed by Australian Outback killers Ivan Milat and Bradley John Murdoch. However, Wolf Creek is a fictional story with made-up characters. British tourists Liz (Cassandra Magrath) and Kristy (Kestie Morassi) embark on a road trip through the Outback with their Australian friend Ben (Nathan Phillips). After a stop to see the Wolfe Creek Crater, the friends return to find their car won’t start. A friendly passerby, Mick (John Jarratt) offers them help but he turns out to have (very) nefarious intentions for the trio.
The third Wolf Creek movie will be titled Wolf Creek: Legacy. Rights have been acquired by Cineverse and Bloody Disgusting. John Jarratt will return as Outback serial killer Mick Taylor. Jay Ryan and Laura Gordon will also star. Sean Lahiff is directing and the screenplay is written by Duncan Samarasinghe. An earlier version of the project had Rachele Wiggins directing.
The official synopsis for Wolf Creek: Legacy is:
Wolf Creek: Legacy’ follows a family of American tourists who wander innocently into Mick Taylor’s hunting grounds. When the parents sacrifice themselves to save their children, the kids find themselves alone, lost and hunted in the vast Australian wilderness.
Wolf Creek: Legacy is scheduled to be released in fall 2026. For now, Wolf Creek, Wolf Creek 2 and Wolf Creek the television series are currently streaming on Tubi.
