3 New Movies That Shouldn’t Have Flopped

By

Okay, these are all seriously good films that deserve a watch, depsite them not performing well at the box office.

Joker: Folie a Deux

This much-anticipated blockbuster was lined up to be a hit after the Oscar-winning original film was released, but it flopped harder than anyone had expected after its initial release. With poor writing leading to a script that even the star-studded cast couldn’t possibly save, the Joker sequel felt like a poor attempt at a quick cash grab, which left fans feeling betrayed and unsatisfied. It’s said that the director made the second Joker film to enrage fans who questioned the ending of the first film – and disappoint, he did.

Madame Web

There’s nothing like a quick Sony Spiderman release to get your hopes up and your spirits low. In order to keep copyright ownership over the character Spiderman, the studio must release related Spiderman content every few years – but the copyright certainly doesn’t say the movies they put out have to be good. Madame Web was expectedly disappointing, after a long line of Sony flops from the past several years. The halfhearted blockbuster barely even deserves to be called a blockbuster at all, with small crowds at opening weekend and poor audience ratings. One thing we definitely don’t mind waiting for is the next Sony Spiderman movie – we just wish it would take even longer for them to produce another one.

Argylle

With a somewhat promising (or at least not entirely offputting) premise, Argylle had the eyes of its audience in 2024. It wanted to be a comedy action film with a solid plot and interesting characters. To be fair, it achieved what it was going for at first – a slightly campy yet good-enough-to-invest-in action flick. Unfortunately, things fell apart within the last 40 minutes of the film, changing the plot from what it claimed to be in the trailer to a music video/musical/dance-off/badly written fiasco of a film. Argylle’s biggest failure was that it wasn’t clear about this switch up at the beginning of the movie, which meant that audience members had already wasted nearly two hours of their lives before realizing this was a movie that deserved to be walked out on. Not enough people were spared from the torture of Argylle, but we all sleep a little more soundly knowing that the film performed so poorly, we won’t have to see a second one. We hope.
