The Truth Is, We’ve All Made Someone Better For Somebody Else

Han Cheng Yeh

When a relationship comes to an end, you might wonder what the point of it all was.

You’ll question why you stayed so long. You’ll think you wasted all your precious time on something that has become a whole lot of nothing.

You simply can’t see it. You can’t see the life-changing way you’ve imprinted on their future.

You made somebody better for someone else.

The one who wasn’t ready to commit.

You made them see there’s nothing to be afraid of. And that sharing your life with someone is one of the most exciting and rewarding things you can do. After all, if your relationship isn’t growing it’s only dying. Next time, they’ll feel more ready to face their fears and take that leap.

The one who lied and cheated.

They saw how they broke you into tiny fragments. How you’re now afraid to trust and petrified the same thing is going to happen again. They know they fucked up.

And they never want to be the cause of that pain again. You got your heart broken but in doing so, you spared someone else the very same heartache.

The one who never gave us the kind of love we deserved.

They’ve learned to give more of themselves to others. They’ve seen that the more you give, the more you receive back tenfold. They understand that none of us are mind readers. If they don’t say or act on how they’re truly feeling, nobody will ever know.

The one who said they couldn’t give us what we wanted.

They’ve realised they were simply afraid. Of not being enough. Of getting things wrong. And of you waking up one day, knowing you deserved so much more than they could ever offer. You taught them to be confident in all they have to offer someone else. And to always raise their bar.

The one who got away.

You made them see what it is they’re truly searching for. You’ve given them clarity and new found meaning. The next time they love will feel right deep down in their heart.

The one who took our love for granted.

You taught them to recognise what they had once it was gone. They realised not everyone loves quite as hard and as fully as you do. Because of you, they’re going to grab hold of and treasure the beautiful soul who comes next.

Take comfort in knowing we’ve all made somebody better for someone else. Thought Catalog Logo Mark
