If you had to pick one streaming service, which should you choose?

Everyone’s streaming their favorite shows and movies right now. Movie theater ticket prices have gone up dramatically and it seems like since the pandemic, more and more people are watching movies from the comfort of their couches. The only problem is, what streaming service should you choose? If you have more than one, it can be challenging to decide where to find the best movies and sometimes it takes longer to find a film than it does to watch the movie. There must be one streaming service superior to the rest, so which is it?

Of course, there are pros and cons to every streaming service, and there are so many to choose from. Netflix is a household name that is stepping up to the plate with a lot of original content lately. They have some of the best original movies streaming right now, including Society Of The Snow, Good Grief, and The Irishman. Netflix is also a valuable streaming service for a ton of foreign films and TV shows. One of the interesting features that Netflix has that others don’t are interactive games and movies/shows on the platform. Choose Love is an interactive movie that allows you to choose what decisions Cami Conway makes in her dating life. They also have Queens Gambit Chess, Stranger Things: Puzzle Tales, and Too Hot To Handle: Love Is A Game. These types of shows and games help them stand out amongst all the other streaming services you can subscribe to. At the low end, Netflix is $7 a month and their highest package is $23, so as far as affordability goes, Netflix is one of the better options. The downside to Netflix is that the library is outdated and sometimes your selections will change based off of the location.

Hulu has been gaining traction and popularity and offers a very extensive Live TV package that covers sports, movies, and television that some other streaming platforms don’t have. Hulu charges $77 or $90 a month for their streaming services plus Live TV, so it’s a bit more pricey but it acts like if you were to purchase a cable TV package. They have also been turning it up a notch on their original content, like The Bear, The Handmaid’s Tale, Palm Springs, and Prey. The only downside I can see with Hulu is its lack of children and family content, as most of their movies and television shows focus on drama, thriller, or comedy. The base cost of the most basic package through Hulu is $8.

Disney+ is also worth mentioning, which is boasting the streaming of Inside Out 2, Haunted Mansion, and Moana 2. Disney+ seems like it only streams children and family content, but if you look at it through the scope of nostalgia, more adults may be willing to dive head first into Disney+. This is a huge hub for all of the Star Wars movies and spinoffs that you can think of, plus an extensive Marvel library.  As well, Disney+ has also integrated Hulu into it’s platform, so it’s like a two-fer. Their basic plan is $10 a month for all of the Disney+ library as well as Hulu and supported ads. There are updates available like an ad-free experience and adding ESPN to your package.

After looking at all of these, there is still Max, formerly known as HBO Max. If you insist on having only one streaming service (and if you do, how do you have the self-control?), then the one for you is Max. Max has the biggest variety of films on its platform and most often will have the newest movies available to stream earlier than other apps. The platform features many different hubs for movies, including A24, TCM, and Oscar-winning films. A24 features some great films like Midsommar, The Witch, Dicks: The Musical, and Dream Scenario. TCM showcases some timeless films like Casablanca, The Wizard of Oz, and Fargo. On the Oscar-winning list we have Barbie, Parasite, and Joker to enjoy any time we want.

Max is also known to have categories that spotlight different things, and right now Max is spotlighting Asian American Pacific Islander, Black, and LGBTQ+ voices. Among these categories, we see titles like Minari, The Color Purple (2023), and We’re Here. There aren’t just movies for adults though, there are also a plethora of kids’ movies and collections. These include Cartoon Network, DC, and the Wizarding World where your kids can watch all Harry Potter movies in all their glory along with Wonka, Spy Kids, and Spirited Away. When looking for diversity in the movies, Max is a clear winner. Compared to other streaming services, Max is also relatively reasonably priced. They offer three different plans for as little as $9.99 and as high as $19.99 a month.

There are so many great movies to choose from that it might make you want to download every streaming service that exists, but that can get costly. So, if you’re looking to choose one to get the most bang for your buck, Max delivers in every category you may need.
