I Want You To Remember Who You Were Before They Broke Your Heart

I want you to remember the days when you actually loved yourself. When you didn’t have to question your every move, when you didn’t magnify every flaw and when you believed that you were worthy of love. The days you were certain that it was only a matter of time before you meet the right person. The days when it never even crossed your mind that there’s something wrong with you.

I want you to remember the days you when you believed it wasn’t you. When you didn’t blame yourself for someone’s inability to love you.

I want you to go back to being yourself before rethinking every word you say, before saying things you don’t believe in, before trying so hard to be what someone else wants.

I want you to go back to the time when you didn’t let rejection or heartbreak define you, when you didn’t believe that everyone is going to break your heart or that you’re destined to always be alone. I want you to go back to the time when you believed in love, when you didn’t let heartbreak take over because your heart wasn’t plaintive.

I want you to remember all the ones who loved you, not the ones who couldn’t. The ones who reveled in your beauty. The ones who told you had beautiful eyes and an even more beautiful soul. The ones who told you they’d do anything for you. The ones who told you they’d stay if you let them.

I don’t want you to remember those who betrayed you, those who lied to you or those who picked someone else over you. I don’t want you to remember the ones who led you on then broke you. I don’t want you to remember the weak ones, the cowards or the ones who left.

I want you to remember the brave ones who loved you and the brave heart you once had. I want you to still believe fiercely in love and be fearless when it comes to loving someone else. I want you to remember all the parts of you that you have been curbing because you think no one will appreciate them.

I don’t want you to believe that you will never find love. I don’t want you to generalize because you’ve met a few wrong ones. I want you to remember that someone is still looking for people like you. People who wear their hearts on their sleeves. People who live to love. People who don’t try to alter their thoughts or filter their words to sound more impressive or more admirable. People who only know how to be real and are looking for something just as real. Something genuine. Something ethereal. Something permanent. Thought Catalog Logo Mark
