If he tells you he doesn’t love you any more, smile. Meet his gaze, even if it is killing you. And tell him, with as much courage as your broken heart can muster that he didn’t know how to love you the way you needed, anyway. Because if he knew how to do that, then he would not be able to leave you. He would understand that your love is worthy of respect, of more care than to be forgotten. He would not be able to forget your face and your hands and your eyes so easily. He would not let go of your memories and turn them into something of the past so easily.

Falling out of love happens to the best of us, but the right person would not be able to fall out of love with you when you are still loving them with everything that is inside you. This is how you know he will never love you right, that he cannot be the one that truly deserves you.

This is how you know you are made for better things than this boy and his half love for you. This is how you know you are worthy of better than a love that gives up on you.
