Apple TV+ Drops Teaser For ‘The Last Frontier’—And It’s Giving ‘Lost’ Meets ‘Orange Is The New Black’
Halloween isn’t the only thing that has us counting down the days to October.
Fall is always reserved for TV’s best debuts, and Apple TV+ is gearing up for one of their own with The Last Frontier, a new limited series that just released a teaser and date announcement today (July 24).
The ten-episode action-thriller-drama will kick off on October 10, and release new episodes weekly through December 5. The formula worked wonders for their star hit, Severance, and I’m not opposed to blocking off my Fridays for similar fare that can keep me on the edge of my seat.
As far as teaser trailers go, this sneak peek does exactly what it’s supposed to do, grab our attention quickly, give us just enough information to get us interested, but leave enough questions unanswered so we’ll stay on the lookout for more.
What we get so far is a plane full of inmates, evoking major Orange Is The New Black vibes as the camera pans in on individual faces, making us contemplate each individual’s complex backstory, while one particular “boss level” looking prisoner way in the back row is hooded and wearing sound-proof headphones (so we know he’s dangerous), and an explosion happens right next to him and begins the plane’s descent.
Where else have we seen prime-time TV kick things off with a plane crash? LOST, of course, and most recently, Yellowjackets. There’s bound to be some sort of survival and escape element to this plot, as the first images released do confirm the crash will have survivors.

The official press release details information not shown in the trailer. Mainly a U.S. marshal protagonist, Frank Remnick (played by Zero Dark Thirty‘s Jason Clarke), who works alone in rural Alaska, where the plane ultimately makes touchdown. He is tasked with protecting his small town, while also beginning to suspect that the crash wasn’t an accident after all. We’ll be so excited if he turns out to be the Alaskan version of a strong, silent type like Walt Longmire.
And even though A&E’s Alone has never technically filmed in Alaska (Vancouver’s not that far away, right?), we hope these inmates will come equipped with similar shelter building, fishing, and hunting skills to make it in that brutal environment.
