Will Netflix Cast Golden Girl Sofia Carson As Evelyn Hugo? Deuxmoi Thinks So
Netflix is going all in with streaming starlet and former Disney Channel star, Sofia Carson.
As made evident by her hosting gig at this year’s 2025 Tudum event, during which her films with the streaming giant were dubbed the “Sofia Carson Universe” or SCU (including this year’s hit rom-com The Life List and upcoming summer rom-com My Oxford Year), it’s clear Netflix and Carson have forged an alliance as deep as it is mutually beneficial.

So does this mean she’s getting cast in the coveted role of Evelyn Hugo?
Intense casting speculation about the upcoming Netflix adaptation of Taylor Jenkins Reid’s novel, The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, has been making it’s way through the tabloids and internet, naming everyone from Selena Gomez, Ana de Armas, and Eiza González as potential leads, with spirited fan reactions following close behind.
Carson is established enough with the streamer with a proven track record of carrying films, but not enough of a household name to deeply offend this passionate fan-base. The daughter of Colombian immigrants, she might actually be the perfect fit to play the fictional Cuban-American actress.
While Netflix has yet to make any official casting announcements since signing onto the project in 2022, podcaster and pseudonymous Instagram celebrity gossip account Deuxmoi recently shared a tip from a source that Liza Chasin, the producer of the movie, and Carson are following each other on Instagram.

Deuxmoi also shared tips that The Last Of Us‘s Kaitlyn Dever is rumored for the role of Celia St. James and filming is set to start this month, so maybe on-set photos aren’t as far away as we think…Either way, we’re hopeful the adaptation will be worth the wait, and live up to the hype of it’s source material.
