What To Watch On June 27, 2025: Will ‘Squid Game’ End With A Swan Song?
If you’ve been fumbling your way through the lyrics to the red light, green light song for years (fun fact: mugunghwa kkoci pieot seumnida translates to ‘the hibiscus flower bloomed’) you already know today is one of the most anticipated days of the year for streaming fans. Korea’s ultimate scripted series is back for its finale, and as a bonus, we’re getting a deep, intimate look into the family tree of SVU legend Mariska Hargitay to boot.
Check out everything you need to know below!
A Global Phenomenon: Squid Game‘s Final Season Is Here
In some ways it’s eerily fitting that Squid Game is coming to an end the very same month that BTS is finally reunited after fulfilling their mandatory military service since the series-turned-international-sensation carried the torch of Korean cultural ambassadorship during their three-year hiatus. After last season’s brutal ending which saw Gi-hun finally betrayed by “Front Man” In-ho after a series of games all the more devasting because we knew the level of brutality to expect this time around, it’s anyone’s guess just how this story will conclude.
Does this bloodthirsty allegory for capitalism and democracy end with a hopeful resolution, or will the cycle of violence and exploitation continue unchecked? The trailer hints that In-ho is gambling on whether Gi-hun’s faith in humanity will finally disintegrate for good, creating a game within the game for him personally. While we’re sad to see such an original story come to an end, we hope it goes out as strong as it started with the swan song it deserves.
Mariska Hargitay’s Directorial Debut: ‘My Mom Jane’
The Law & Order SVU star, who has been a television staple since 1999, takes on the role of director to bring to life the story of her mother and Hollywood icon, Jayne Mansfield, who died when Hargitay was three years old. The documentary arrives to HBO Max after premiering at Cannes, and provides an intimate look at Mansfield’s persona as well as her public and private legacies, including interviews with family members, and a huge personal revelation about the identity of Hargitay’s biological father. Anyone with interest in the history of Hollywood and its dynasties will absolutely need to add this to their watch list.
Notable Anniversaries: 28 Days Later

Danny Boyle’s apocalyptic horror film turns twenty-two today, just a week after the series third installment, 28 Years Later hit theaters. There’s no better time to celebrate with a marathon or practice your Irish accent in honor of the one and only Cillian Murphy, who honestly has aged just as well as this trilogy.
