Hulu Did Us Dirty With This Week’s ‘Nine Perfect Strangers’ Cliffhanger
Tension has been steadily building at Zauberwald, and this week the credits rolled right before they could hit their zenith. Masha and Martin were tripping on mushroom tea, David was hooked up to the “new technology” that allows Masha to help patients relive old memories, and a vibrant fireworks show and loudspeaker announcement summoned the rest of the guest for an “emergency meeting” that appears to be a reckoning-slash-trial for David.
While it felt like we had the proverbial rug pulled out from under us with the abrupt cliffhanger, this is also a great time to pause and reflect on all of the interwoven storylines we’ve discovered over the course of this season. The puzzle pieces may be fitting into place, but we can be confident Masha still has some bombshells to drop in the season finale of Nine Perfect Strangers.

How is everyone connected?
So far, we know that six of the other eight strangers have direct ties to David (excluding him from the count), in addition to his prior relationship to Masha, and the fact that he is Tatiana’s biological father and suspected murder.
His network was the first to broadcast the outburst that ruined Brian’s career, and his business dealings with satellite company SignalOp tie him to Victoria’s husband and Imogen’s father, who is now deceased, as well as the drone strike that killed Matteo’s family. Agnes cared for Matteo in the aftermath, and David claims to have met her at a field hospital in Kosovo, though we can’t yet confirm if it’s the same location. And finally, his son, Peter, has begged for David’s love and affection his entire life, to little success.
So that leaves us with Tina, Wolfie, and Martin outside of the official loop…for now. Tina is connected to Brian through her appearance on his TV show, she brings Wolfie into the fold, and Martin’s backstory with his mother Helena is critical to the plot points about Zauberwald’s financial disarray, which create the need for an investment from someone with David’s wealth, and potentially the underlying motive for the entire retreat. My bet is that the finale has at least one major surprise tied to someone from this group.
Until then, we’ll be waiting with baited breath to see what Masha has planned for these strangers.
