Simone Ashley Shines In Amazon’s ‘Picture This’—A Must-Watch For ‘Bridgerton’ Fans

By

Amazon Prime’s new film Picture This fully delivers on the ‘com’ half of the rom-com bargain. Starring Bridgerton and Sex Education‘s Simone Ashley, who shines as Pia Jaswani, a struggling entrepreneur and photographer who is dealing with financial and familial pressures leading up to her younger sister Sonal’s wedding, the writing is full of light-hearted humor grounded in reality.

Sonal’s sibling goading comparing Pia’s fashion sense to Cynthia from Rugrats is sure to land well with millennials, and Pia’s friend and business partner Jay refers to her ex as ‘Big Dick Dinesh’, the kind of inside joke we all have with our besties. Comedian Sindhu Vee gives a memorable performance as Pia’s mother, Laxmi, who is so bent on finding a match for her elder daughter, she has their family pandit read Pia’s horoscope in addition to approving an auspicious date for Sonal and her fiancé.

Pia’s parents have been divorced for over a decade, but intentionally hide the split and her father’s new relationship from family back in India by posting posed photos on social media. Add to the mix that her ex-boyfriend and only true love, Charlie, just happens to be the best man in the wedding, which will force her to confront the painful reasons they broke up in the first place.

To complicate things further Pia’s family take the pandit’s prediction that her future match will be one of the next five people she meets as an invitation to set her up with a series of blind dates. Her father chooses Bombay big-wig Sid, her mother chooses co-worker Akshay, and her sister chooses yogi slash flat earth-er, Milo. Openly gay best friend and business partner Jay makes date number four, and to find out who the fifth and final date is, you’re just going to have to stream this for yourself!

You Don’t Need To Be Chosen To Be Worthy

Reflection Few wounds cut as deeply as the ache of being overlooked. When the one you hoped would stay slipped away without explanation. When the friend stopped showing up. When the love you gave was not met, not matched, not returned. And even if no one said the words aloud, the silence spoke for them. […]
