A Thank You To Those Who Never Left

A Thank You To Those Who Never Left

Thank you to the people that show up. To the people that consistently show they care. The ones who are there, not just for the big things, but the little ones too.

Sometimes the people who show up surprise you. It’s not always who you would expect. Maybe someone you expected to DOESN’T show up for you. In a way, that shows you reality in itself.

I’m thankful for the real ones who do. Who remember the doctor’s appointment I was nervous about. Who check to make sure I’m okay. The ones who ask how things are going in my relationships. Who consciously show an effort, not just when it’s convenient to them.

I’m grateful to be surrounded by people I love and who love me back. Our efforts are the same. I will never stop loving these people.

But what happens when you care for people who don’t show up for you? You show up. You show up until you can’t anymore.

At a point you can’t keep crossing bridges for people who wouldn’t do the same. It’s not healthy. So recognize those that do. Leave those that don’t.

I often remember the people who showed up for me. Some are in my life today; some, not so much. I’m eternally grateful for all of them.

Sometimes all it takes is a small gesture. During the hardest times of your life, you will remember who was there. You will also remember who wasn’t. It stings.

Maybe you will cut contact because of that. Or maybe you will try to move forward. But it’s like ripping off a bandaid. It hurts.

I’ve shown up for a lot of people. In people showing up for me, I’ve learned to recognize when people need someone. I will always have a big heart. I won’t apologize for that.

But because of that, I want to say thank you.

Thank you to those who showed up for me. The ones who were there when nobody else was. Thank you for lending a shoulder to cry on. Thank you for sitting in silence with me. Thank you for understanding that I was having a rough day but needed your support. Whether you’re in my life today or not, I appreciate you and love you.

Those who show up for you deserve a special place in your heart.

Always. Thought Catalog Logo Mark
