And When You Choose Love, May It Feel Like Home

By

And when you choose to love, I hope it’s the kind of thing that feels like Saturday mornings in baggy clothes making waffles in the kitchen as your song plays in the background. That home kind of love full of comfort and familiarity.

And when you choose to love, I hope it’s with someone who gets to know who you are to the core, everything that makes you, you. May they become ears for your hopes and dreams that later become a reality. May their arms be what feels safe in moments of fear. May they be your safe place, your greatest confidant, and your best friend who knows you even when you’ve tricked the world.

And when you choose to love, I hope it’s with someone who can close their eyes and see yours in every detail. I hope they know your body and every curve that makes up who you are, and in loving every part of you, I hope you learn to love even your insecurities. I hope it’s the kind of love that leaves you filled as you roll over late at night, and they are there with a presence alone that comforts you.

And when you choose to love, I hope it’s with someone you share a real connection with. This person knows you just as you know them because as different as you might be, there is so much of you that are the same. It’s in knowing what they think and feel because you’ve felt and thought those same things too and in finding each other, you help become a better version of who you’re meant to be. But even if you were to ask them they’d say you were perfect.

And when you choose to love, I hope it’s with someone honest. Because honest relationships are the strongest ones, it’s in that honesty you learn to have more brave conversations with yourself. And in those brave moments you’ll grow to become a better version of yourself and in becoming better, your relationship does too.

And when you choose to love, I hope it’s with someone who teaches you that it’s never been you, but in finding them, suddenly what you’ve built together becomes this beautiful priority. It’s everything you do and this life together. A life that you could only dream about having because they are there for it: in this other person you learn to be most selfless, and that loves the greatest gift of all.

Suddenly a house becomes a home as you fill it with things together but most importantly love and you see precisely how beautiful something can be that you build.

And when you choose to love, I hope it’s in the finite details you learn about another just as someone will remember all these things that makeup who you are. Those quirks and small habits make up who you are and even if you don’t like it, may it be met with someone who loves you unconditionally.

It’s in the mess you sometimes make that they clean up in the bathroom or the morning routine they have you have to workaround. I hope you find the kind of person who fits into your life in a way that makes up for the things you lack, and they don’t mind it. I hope you find someone whose life, when combined with yours it works not out of luck but out of someone continuing to choose you.

And when you choose to love, I hope it’s with someone who you not only can’t live without, but they can’t even imagine a life without you either. And in finding one another, you don’t know what you believe, but there has got to be something bigger out there, that you found your way into each other’s lives and stumbled into each other’s hearts only to discover love is and has always been worth it.
