This Is Exactly How You’re Gonna Lose Her

And if silence could speak it would say, “it shouldn’t have ended this way.”

Lose Her
God & Man

You’re gonna lose her when she realizes there’s nothing more she can do.

When she catches you in another lie or making up an excuse and doesn’t call you out on it.

You’re gonna lose her when she realizes that’s all it ever is.

Someone not caring enough.

You’re gonna lose her when she stops fighting to make it work.

When she takes a step back because she can’t keep trying.

When she wants to but also knows it’s for the best.

When she holds back tears because you’ve disappointed her again but she’s become painfully used to this that she’s number.

You’re gonna lose her when she realizes she can’t keep investing so much into someone who isn’t reciprocating it.

When she realizes she can’t convince someone to care just because she does.

You’re gonna lose her when you don’t meet her halfway with her efforts.

And she feels like no matter what she does it’ll never be enough.

You’re gonna lose her every time you don’t answer and she’s left thinking too much about why.

You’re gonna lose her in the moment you think she’s a choice you get to make.

You’re gonna lose her a little more each time you make her question her worth.

Every time you confuse her.

Every time you say one thing and do the other.

You’re gonna lose her when you keep her in the dark about how you feel when she’s been nothing but honest.

Because your actions show you might like her but not enough.

You’re gonna lose her a little more every time you touch her then tell her she can’t stay.

You’re gonna lose her a little more when you connect with her emotionally then pull away because she got closer than you would have liked her too.

You’re gonna lose her a little more when you have to talk yourself into why you shouldn’t give her a chance because you know you should and she deserves one.

You’re gonna lose her a little more every time you say you’re just friends but your actions completely contradict that.

Friends don’t talk to each other the way you guys do.

You’re gonna lose her every time you play some sort game of messing with her head and she can’t keep up because you keep changing the rules.

You’re gonna lose her every time she tells her friends about you and what they’re saying is walk away because he’s not worth it.

You’re gonna lose her every time you draw some gray line then choose to erase it.

You’re gonna lose her when she doesn’t know where you guys stand so she has no other choice but to walk away.

And you’re gonna lose her that moment she walks away and you don’t stop her from doing so.

When you notice a gradual shift but you have too much pride to act on it.

When she looks back and doesn’t see you coming after her.

You’re gonna realize you lost her when her absence makes you feel more lonely than you ever thought you could be.

You’re gonna realize you lost her when you suddenly start looking for her in other people.

Because everyone else isn’t doing it for you.

You’re gonna realize you lost her and hate herself for taking her for granted.

You’re gonna realize you lost her when you look down at your phone and it’s not her blowing it up anymore.

You’re gonna realize you lost her when she finally moves on and introduces you to someone she looks at the way she used to look at you.

You’re gonna realize you lost her when she talks to him the way she used to talk to you.

You’re gonna realize you lost her when suddenly this person you don’t even know makes you more jealous than you can explain.

But you don’t do anything. Because she was once yours and you didn’t choose her.

Because had you realized what you had when you had it that would be you.

You don’t do anything because she deserves to finally be happy.

So you each stay silent looking at each other with a smile.

And if silence could speak it would say, “it shouldn’t have ended this way.” Thought Catalog Logo Mark
