In need of a twisty-turny, family-fueled drama from the mind behind Big Little Lies and Little Fires Everywhere? What about a documentary that explores the life of a two-time Indianapolis 500 champion who died on the track? Or, if you’re a fan of lighter fare, a rom-com about a woman whose best friend engages the love of her life? Whatever your film flavor is, a handful of new movies and shows are streaming this week to satisfy your needs. 

‘The Lionheart’ | MAX | March 12

The Lionheart is a documentary about Dan Wheldon’s personal and professional legacy. The man was a celebrated two-time Indianapolis 500 champion who died on the track — shocking and shaking the world of motorsports. Ten years later, both his sons now get behind the wheel and continue in his footsteps. Laura Brownson of Lemon, The Rainmaker, and The Rachel Divide directs and serves as a producer on the documentary. 

‘Little Wing’ | Paramount+ | March 13

The sports drama Little Wing follows a 13-year-old girl dragged into the world of pigeon racing while coping with her parents’ divorce and the impending loss of her home. The upcoming film stars Succession’s Brian Cox, Yellowstone star Kelly Reilly, and Brooklynn Prince (The Florida Project, Home Before Dark, Cocaine Bear) as the primary protagonists. Dean Israelite (Flight, Power Rangers, Need for Speed) directs with a screenplay by John Gatins and Susan Orlean (Adaptation, Blue Crush). The film is based on an article of the same name by Orlean. 

‘The Girls on the Bus’ | MAX | March 14

The upcoming political drama The Girls on the Bus follows four female journalists who follow and report on the various everyday and absurd actions of flawed presidential candidates. Along the way, they discover meaningful friendships, love, and just a little bit of information that could destroy our entire democracy. The upcoming series is based on Amy Chozick’s 2018 memoir Chasing Hillary

Chozick served as a writer on the series alongside Elizabeth Choi Bubriski, Kevin Garnett, Rina Mimoun, Candace Jackson, Tawal Panyacosit Jr., and more. Erica Dunton, Marcos Siega, Marta Cunningham, DeMane Davis, and Jesse Peretz direct. The story is a deep dive into a reporter’s perspective on the 2016 election and the first female President who wasn’t. The series stars Carla Gugino (Gerald’s Game, The Haunting of Hill House), Natasha Benham (Crazy Ex-Girlfriend), Melissa Benoist (Supergirl), and Christine Elmore (Fruitvale Station, Insecure). 

‘Apples Never Fall’ | Peacock | March 14

Apples Never Fall follows the Delaney family, who seem very happy — until the mom disappears, leaving the father and children to reassess their history. If mom went missing, you would call the police, right? What if papa bear was suspect number one? What if you love your family, but also want to kill them? The upcoming dramatic mystery is based on Liane Moriarty’s novel of the same name, who has also gifted us with enticing stories, such as Nine Perfect Strangers, What Alice Forgot, Big Little Lies, and The Husband’s Secret. 

The series stars Oscar nominee Annette Benning, Jurassic Park and Hunt for the Wilderpeople star Sam Neill, Jake Lacy (Carol, Obvious Child), Alison Brie (Glow, Promising Young Woman), Essie Randles (The Speedway Murders), and Pooja Shah (Westworld, New Girl). Dawn Shadforth (Mood, Adult Material) and Chris Sweeney (The Tourist, Liar) direct the adapted teleplay. All episodes will drop together. 

‘Dream Scenario’ | MAX | March 15

The Nicolas Cage-led drama meets dark comedy meets horror meets fantasy spectacle first premiered in theaters on November 10, 2023. The film follows an everyday man — a bit dull and lacking in self-esteem — who becomes a global sensation when millions of people start seeing him in their dreams. It’s fine when he’s a hero. It’s fine when he’s the sweet innocent man simply traipsing through and even when he’s the source of your erotic desires…but what happens when he’s the slasher in your nightmare? Paul and his family are forced to navigate his newfound stardom and deal with the repercussions that surface when the world begins to fear this seemingly hapless professor. The film from writer/director Kristoffer Borgli (Sick of Myself, Eer) also stars Lily Bird (The Northman, Beau Is Afraid) and Julianne Nicholson (August: Osage County, Mare of Easttown, Blonde). 

‘Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour’ | Disney+ | March 15

Ready to feel your feels as Taylor takes you through her various relationship crises? Ready to dance around your living room as you sing along to Swift’s upbeat hits? The Eras Tour will finally hit Disney+ on March 15 and marks the first time the film we be available in its entirety, including “Cardigan” and additional acoustic numbers. The film, directed by Sam Wrench, grossed over $260 million worldwide at the global box office, so, even though many of you Swift fans have already seen it on the silver screen, it’s about time for a second go. 

‘Irish Wish’ | Netflix | March 15

Lindsay Lohan in a rom-com?! Sold. When Maddie’s (Lohan) greatest love gets engaged to another woman, who also happens to be her best friend, she must put her feelings aside to be a bridesmaid at their wedding in Ireland. Yet, is he the one who got away or merely a distraction from the new guy who’s her better match?

The upcoming Netflix original also stars Ed Speelers (Star Trek: Picard, You, Outlander) and Alexander Vlahos (Firecracker, Outlander, Sanditon). Janeen Damian (Paris Christmas Waltz, Falling for Christmas) directs with a screenplay by Kirsten Hansen (Cross Country Christmas, Chesapeake Shores) directs
