10 Must-See Netflix Originals Streaming in March 2024
By Josh Lezmi
Whether you’re a fan of sci-fi spectacles, cozy rom-coms, or tearjerking dramatic sagas, Netflix has a handful of must-see original shows and movies dropping in February. From Adam Sandler the astronaut and Millie Bobby Brown the damsel turned warrior to Lindsay Lohan the love interest, we’ve got you covered with everything you need to look out for.
‘Spaceman’ | March 1
Spaceman stars funnyman Adam Sandler in a dramatic sci-fi narrative based on the 2017 novel Spaceman of Bohemia by Jaroslav Kalfař. Sandler portrays Jakub Procházka, who was orphaned as a boy and raised in the Czech countryside by his grandparents, before overcoming major obstacles to become the country’s first astronaut. He is sent on an eight-month solo mission to a cloud of intergalactic dust near Venus; the trip is dangerous no other country is willing to risk sending their citizens to inspect the area. While there, he meets and befriends a talking arachnid-like extra-terrestrial being. Johan Renck directs the film with Carey Mulligan and Paul Dano rounding out the primary ensemble.
‘The Program: Cons, Cults, and Kidnapping’ | March 5
Katherine Kubler’s new docuseries explores the traumatic experiences the filmmaker endured while attending the disciplinary school, The Academy at Ivy Ride. The industry promises parents they can “fix” the wayward youth while endangering their teen populations.
‘SuperSex’ | March 6
The series SuperSex chronicles pornographic film icon Rocco Siffredi’s personal and professional life. The film explores his familial dynamics, origins, and personal relationships — while exposing the journey that led the man to reconcile the demon in his body with the capacity to love. The film stars Alessandro Borghi (The First King, The Eight Mountains) as Rocco, as well as Jasmine Trinca, Linda Hardy, Gaia Messerklinger, and Vincenzo Nemolato. Francesco Carrozzini, Francesca Mazzoleni, and Matteo Rovere direct.
‘The Gentlemen’ | March 7
In this series from Guy Ritchie, Theo James of Divergent fame plays Eddie Halstead, who inherits a large estate from his father — utterly unaware of the fact that it is a front for a drug empire. With no crime experience, he must take over the intricate operation or lose the estate. The series also stars Daniel Ings, Kaya Scodelario, Shane Walker, Joely Richardson, and Vinnie Jones.
‘The Signal’ | March 7
In this upcoming Netflix series, an astronaut seemingly vanishes from her mission, leading her husband to embark on an investigation while managing life as a newly single father to their daughter. Sebastian Hilger and Philip Leinemann direct with a screenplay from Nadine Gottman, Sebastian Hilger, and Florian David Fitz. Yuna Bennett, Peri Baumeister, and Florian David Fitz star.
‘Damsel’ | March 8
From Eleven to Warrior Princess, Millie Bobby Brown is keeping more Netflix subscribers on the platform than the streamer would care to admit. The upcoming film stars Brown as a dutiful damsel who agrees to marry a handsome Prince (sounds like the ending to most fairy tales; not the onset). She comes to discover that the Prince’s family has recruited her as a sacrifice to repay an ancient debt.
They throw her into a pit, and when she wakes up in a muddied white gown, it’s time to run from the beast that lurks. Will she learn to fend for herself? Will she fight to avenge all those who have died before her? From weak and whimpering to determined and dangerous, she will run, she will climb, she will fight, she will survive. The film also stars Angela Bassett, Robin Wright, Nick Robinson, and Ray Winstone. Juan Carlos Fresnadillo of 28 Weeks Later recognition directs with a script by Dan Mazeau.
‘Irish Wish’ | March 15
We’re all here for the Lohanaissance. The upcoming rom-com stars Lindsay Lohan as Maddie, who puts her feelings aside for the man of her dreams when he gets engaged to her best friend. Yet, when she makes a little wish — that she was the man marrying him instead— it comes true. Will she go through with it, even when another man enters the fray and challenges the so-called perfect catch that is Paul Kennedy? The film also stars Ed Speleers and Alexander Vlahos with Janeen Damian directing a script from Kirsten Hansen.
‘3 Body Problem’ | March 21
3 Body Problem follows humanity’s first contact with an alien civilization. A fateful 1960s decision in China echoes across space and time, reaching a group of present scientists forced to face humanity’s greatest threat. The Netflix original series is based on The Three-Body Problem by Liu Cixin and stars Marlo Kelly, Saamer Usmani, Jess Hong, and Jovan Adepo.
‘Shirley’ | March 22
The upcoming biopic stars Regina King as Shirley Chisholm, as she makes a run for the 1972 Democratic presidential nomination after becoming the first Black woman elected to Congress. John Ridley serves as director and scriptwriter with Lance Reddick, Terrence Howard, and Lucas Hedges rounding out the primary cast.
‘The Beautiful Game’ | March 29
The Netflix sports drama follows advocates to end homelessness as they organize an annual tournament for homeless men to compete in a series of Football matches known as The Homeless World Cup. Bill Nighy stars with Thea Sharrock (Me Before You) directing with a script by Frank Cottrell Boyce (The Railway Man, Doctor Who).
