The 6 Most Highly-Anticipated Netflix Originals Streaming in January

By

From inspiring biopics to romantic comedies and mysterious dramas, Netflix has a handful of highly-anticipated originals streaming in January. It’s time to grab the popcorn, get under the covers, and start streaming as the temperatures drop.

‘Society of the Snow’ | January 4, 2024

When a Rugby team’s flight crashes on a glacier in the Andes, the few remaining survivors find themselves trapped in one of the world’s most unsurvivable environments. The film is a true story based on Pablo Vierci’s nonfiction book of the same name and is a tale of friendship, hope, and resilience. The 72-day timeline led to conversations about cannibalism and survival necessities, but the team never reached a Lord of the Flies state of mind. Rather, they discussed relying on the already deceased bodies for nourishment with some even giving their consent to become food if they were to die. This movie packs a visceral, often stomach-churning punch, so be prepared. J.A. Bayona (The Orphanage, The Impossible, A Monster Calls) directs a large ensemble, including Agustín Pardella, Esteban Kukuriczka, Francisco Romero, Valentino Alonso, Tomas Wolf, and more.

‘Good Grief’ | January 5, 2024

Good Grief, from writer, director, and star Dan Levy, follows a man whose husband unexpectedly dies, leading him to take an unexpected soul-searching trip to Paris with his two closest friends. The trip reveals some difficult truths that have needed to surface for quite some time. The movie stars Ruth Nega and Himesh Patel as the two besties and Luke Evans as Levy’s swoon-worthy partner who dies too soon. The romantic dramedy marks Levy’s directorial film debut and has been receiving quite a bit of hype since the trailer dropped.

From creators Yeon Sang-ho, Min Hong-nam, and Hwang Eun-young, the mystery thriller series stars Kim Hyun-joo, Park Hee-soon, and Park Byung-eun.

‘Griselda’ | January 25, 2024

The series from creator Doug Miro (who also brought us Narcos) also stars Rosa Ochoa, Desiree Alexandra Estrada, Martín Rodríguez, and Martín Fajardo and is directed by Andrés Baiz (The Hidden Face, Roa).
