He was seated in back, directly behind the pilot and positioned so that the camera was aimed at a rectangular side window as a large stone head suddenly came into view. It was only visible for a moment as the helicopter continued its descent past the massive humanoid statue, though the face I glimpsed hadn’t looked very human.
The helicopter finished its landing and the side door was suddenly yanked open from the outside, revealing a tall genderless form swaddled in anachronistic-looking cold weather wear, their face obscured by a large fur-lined hood. The figure gestured for Danny to step out and he shouted something in response but all I could hear was the helicopter.
The figure’s only reply was to tilt the hand they were gesturing with as if to say, The answers to all of your questions are this way.
As Danny climbed out of the chopper, I saw that the statue I had glimpsed before was actually part of a massive ancient-looking stone wall. This wall, which looked to be about 50-feet high, had a large house-sized section of its base removed and then fenced off with chainlink.
The helicopter behind them had finally wound down and Danny repeated his question from before, “Are you the guy I spoke with? Alderson?”
