The Private DM Charlie Kirk Sent To Left-Wing Commentator Van Jones Before His Death

By

Shortly before his assassination, Charlie Kirk and CNN host Van Jones publicly sparred over the killing of Iryna Zarutska in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Van Jones recalls what happened, here in his own words:

He said the gruesome killing of a White woman by a Black man was motivated solely by anti-White hatred. I denounced those comments on CNN as unfounded. He went on TV and denounced MY denunciation. Then he unleashed a firehose of tweets, challenging my argument.

Kirk’s pushback sparked an online torrent of racist death threats against me, the likes of which I have rarely seen.

Things were seriously heading off the rails.

Then — in the middle of all this — Charlie Kirk reached out.

The message Kirk sent to Van Jones was this:

Charlie Kirk’s last private message to Van Jones was one of civility and respect.

Then Van Jones says: “Unfortunately, before I could even respond, Charlie Kirk was killed — seemingly assassinated for the words he’s spoken.” Jones then goes on to talk about how both Kirk and himself valued free speech, debate, and civility despite sharp disagreements. And reminded us that pundits often argue fiercely but don’t wish each other harm.

It’s a wise message that shows two people from opposite political camps respecting each other, not wishing harm, but simply seeking a healthy debate of ideas.
