Jude Law Channels Kurt Cobain While Jason Bateman Smashes Drums In Netflix’s New Thriller ‘Black Rabbit’

By

One of the best easter eggs in Netflix’s new show Black Rabbit is a music video that shows Jason Bateman and Jude Law as fictional ’90s punk band called the Black Rabbits, performing a song called “Turned To Black.”

Jude Law looking like Kurt Cobain.

Law sports a blonde wig, looking very Kurt Cobain, and actually sings the song! Like really. JUDE LAW sings the actual song on the show’s soundtrack, and he’s actually an amazing singer. Bateman is on the drums and is dressed in a way that is pretty LOL.

The music video drops right at the start of episode 2, creating a violent contrast of levity before the show’s darker and intense themes take ahold.

How did this scene come to be?

Jason Bateman playing drums in the music video for “Turned to Black” on Netflix’s new show Black Rabbit.

Bateman explained to Entertainment Weekly, “It was originally scripted as just an old video that’s up on a monitor in the club. I thought it might be interesting to do a hard cut into their music video, and have the audience ask, ‘Where the hell are we?’” What began as a simple background clip evolved into a full lo-fi punk video sequence. The team shot the entire segment on 16mm film with a run-and-gun approach, capturing gritty street graffiti, raw textures, rabbit-head extras, and even Jude Law climbing cages.

Who wrote the song?

Albert Hammond Jr. of The Strokes wrote original songs for the series. Hammond actually wrote two songs for the Black Rabbit soundtrack: one the song in this music video, another for a super emotional scene later in the series.

Do the lyrics connect to the plot?

It would be shocking if the lyrics did not give away something about the plot. Surely there is a connection in the lyrics to the fragile trust between Jake and Vince.

Heavenly girl, you don’t want to know
The places I’ve been to, where you don’t wanna go
Everyone says
There’s not that many times you’ll save me

People have got to be
A little careful with the rules they make up
I can’t
I don’t know how to know how far’s too far to go
These rules won’t change me

All that I have are your words, mouth wide open
The light in your mind goes
I tried to go home with
I see it now, we can’t go back
Too many things you couldn’t take
We lose control, you turn to black
So many things you

All that I have are your words, mouth wide open
The light in your mind goes
I tried to go home with
I see it now, we can’t go back
Too many things you couldn’t take
We lose control, you turn to black
So many things you
