This movie solidified Bill Skarsgård as one of the great modern character actors.

One Of Stephen King’s Best Horror Movies Is Leaving Netflix On 3/31

It's the perfect horror movie for something fun, but not absolutely terrifying.

When it comes to horror movies, Netflix giveth and Netflix taketh away. The service always has a strong, rotating roster of horror movies, but Stephen King’s 2017 modern classic, IT, will no longer be available on Netflix after March 31st.

What is IT all about?

IT was the first movie for Finn Wolfhard (far left) after becoming famous in Stranger Things. IT was also a breakout movie for Sophia Lillis (second from left). (also pictured: Jeremy Ray Taylor, Wyatt Oleff, Jaeden Martell, and Chosen Jacobs)

IT is set in the late 1980s in the fictional, pinprick of a town called Derry, Maine. Derry is not a good place to grow up in. The bullies are vicious, but even worse, Derry is home to a mysterious entity that preys upon the town’s children every 27 years.

The cycle has started again. As kids disappear in disturbing numbers, a group of young misfits band together for their collective survival. If these kids want to see adulthood, then the self-proclaimed “Losers Club” must confront Derry’s evil entity which often takes the form of Pennywise the Dancing Clown.

Is IT worth watching?

Pennywise in It (2017)
Pennywise (Bill Skarsgård) acts like Samara Morgan and crawls out of a movie screen.

IT truly is one of the best movies based on the work of Stephen King, but don’t just take my opinion. It sits at #7 on Rotten Tomatoes’ ranking of 65 movies based on Stephen King’s work. It has an 85% fresh rating from critics (which, amazingly, beats 1980’s The Shining). Even armchair critics like you and me landed on a similar 84% Popcornmeter approval rating. Great minds think alike!

IT is a great film for those of us who appreciate a fun, but not too terrifying, horror movie. It has some good jump scares and great tension, but isn’t going to leave you wide awake staring at the ceiling at night, like, say, The Ring (2002).

IT is streaming on Netflix until 3/31.
