The Gorge

The First 50 Minutes of This Apple TV+ Movie Are Incredibly Romantic And Mysterious

I really really think the first 50 mins of this movie make it a must-watch. Here's why.

The Gorge (2025), starring Miles Teller and Anya Taylor-Joy, is a genre-blending action-horror romance set atop a mysterious chasm.

The story follows two elite snipers from rival nations (Soviet / USA) assigned to guard a massive fog-shrouded gorge. The post is so secretive that a former guard tells one of the characters it might actually be a real portal to hell. It streams on Apple TV.

Should you watch it?

Well, on Rotten Tomatoes, about 60% of critics reviewed it positively, while audience scores hover around 75–80%, indicating many viewers found it entertaining despite its flaws. My take? YES! This movie is awesome, at least the first 50 minutes. But it devolves halfway through to a bad movie, but it’s one of those rare movies that the first 50 minutes are good, it’s worth watching the first 50 mins and then just fast-forwarding after.

Hint: Start fast forwarding once the Yeah Yeah Yeah’s song “Spitting on the Edge of the World” ends. Everything up to this point is perfect cinematic genius — a plot that gets you hooked, awesome cinematography, a perfect hybrid of romance, action, and mystery.

But once that song fades out, the film takes a massive nosedive into a boring and predicable action-horror film. Though, I suppose if you’re a fan of things like Resident Evil, you might enjoy the second half.

In the first half, Miles Teller and Anya Taylor-Joy have fun chemistry and a unique love story that you really can’t top. I also give kudos to the sound design across this film, which was incredible.

Devotional Message When someone wrongs us, our natural inclination is to respond with the same energy they’ve given us—to stoop to their level, to punish them, to make them feel the pain we’ve felt. As human beings, our feelings of anger, frustration, and irritation are warranted. However, these emotions also invite us to explore what […]
