If This Movie Were Shorter, It’d Be The Best Film Of 2025 Thus Far
The Gorge (2025), starring Miles Teller and Anya Taylor-Joy, is a genre-blending action-horror romance set atop a mysterious chasm.
The story follows two elite snipers from rival nations (Soviet/USA) assigned to guard a massive fog-shrouded gorge. The post is so secretive that a former guard tells one of the characters it might actually be a real portal to hell. It streams on Apple TV.
Should you watch it?
Well, on Rotten Tomatoes, about 60% of critics reviewed it positively, while audience scores hover around 75–80%, indicating many viewers found it entertaining despite its flaws.

My take? Yes! This movie is awesome—at least for the first 50 minutes. But it deteriorates like rotting food halfway through into a bad movie. Still, the first 50 minutes are so good that it’s worth watching up to that point and then fast-forwarding.
Hint: Start fast-forwarding once the Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ song Spitting on the Edge of the World ends. Everything up to this point is perfect cinematic genius—a plot that gets you hooked, awesome cinematography, and a perfect hybrid of romance, action, and mystery. It’s also just a genuinely creative/poetic story setup.
But once that song fades out, the film takes a massive nosedive into a boring and predictable action-horror film. Though, if you’re a fan of Resident Evil, you might enjoy the second half.
In the first half, Miles Teller and Anya Taylor-Joy have fun chemistry and a unique love story that really stands out. I also give kudos to the incredible sound design throughout the film.
Probably would have been my favorite movie of 2025 so far, if the last 50 minutes were as good as the first 50. I feel like everyone has to agree with me here.
Still, if you have Apple TV, you can stream it at no extra cost; it’s worth a watch.
