If You're Planning On Spending Forever Together, You Need To Get Used To These 6 Things

If You’re Planning On Spending Forever Together, You Need To Get Used To These 6 Things

1. You need to get used to sitting in silence. You should feel comfortable with your person. You should be able to enjoy their company, even when you’ve run out of things to say, even when you’re on two separate laptops doing two separate activities. You shouldn’t feel like it’s awkward to sit with them in silence. There should be plenty of times when you’re deep in fun discussions, and just as many times when you’re sharing sweet silence.

2. You need to get used to small, stupid arguments. No, you shouldn’t be getting into full-blown fights on a regular basis, but every couple is going to argue. Every couple is going to have misunderstandings and miscommunications. If you love this person and respect this person, and they feel the same way about you, then you need to get used to overcoming these rough patches. You need to learn how to work through them because you’re never going to avoid them altogether.

3. You need to get used to their bad habits. There are certain bad habits that you are going to nag at your person to break until it actually happens, but there are other ones, harmless ones, that you’re going to have to live with forever. After all, you can’t expect your person to change. You can’t expect your person to behave exactly the way you want them to behave at any given time. Some of their little quirks are there to stay, so if you really think they’re your person, you’re going to have to learn to accept them.

4. You need to get used to their way of coping with sadness. Everybody handles their struggles differently. Your person might turn to humor or books or video games or baking. Whatever they do when they’re upset, you’re going to have to grow accustomed to dealing with because everyone mopes in their own way. You might need to give them space of you might need to sit down with them and let them vent. It depends on the person. Depends on the relationship.

5. You’re going to need to get used to their family and friends. You can’t expect them to kick their loved ones out of their life, simply because they aren’t your ideal type of people to spend dinner alongside. You’re going to be seeing a lot of their family and friends over the years, so you need to get used to them. You need to see the beauty in them. You need to at least try to get along for your person’s sake.

6. You’re going to need to get used to their natural, uncensored self. When you first start dating someone, you only see them at their best, after they’ve put hours into looking good for you and trying to impress you. But once you’re living with someone, you’re going to see them in their natural state much more often than you see them in their fancy, dressed up state. You need to love them for them, because you’re not going to get an edited version. You’re going to see them exactly as they are. Thought Catalog Logo Mark
