5 Reasons Why It’s Okay To Be Alone

Being alone is often looked as a negative thing. People often see this as a problem that needs to be solved. However it does not need solving, in fact, it’s not even a problem.

We as humans require some social interaction with others, however sometimes a little bit of alone time is necessary, too. You don’t always have to be around other people.

People tend to think that being alone directly correlates to loneliness. Being alone and being lonely are two different things. Loneliness is a negative state of mind where you are always longing for something to fill the void. Alone is a positive state of mind where you are always and constantly delighted in yourself.

We need to learn that it is alright to be alone. There is nothing wrong with being alone and should be used as a time of productivity.

1. Solitude

The clarity you receive from being alone is unmatched. It is just you, your surroundings, and your thoughts. You can enjoy and appreciate the beauty of those things in your life.

In times of solitude, you can hear your own thoughts. There is no form of distraction. You can ponder those thoughts and get lost in them. Some thoughts end in a sudden realization, others lead to nowhere. But the journey of those thoughts is what matters most.

It’s also a state where you are present in time. Most of life we play thoughts of the past in our heads or scenarios of the future we hope to unfold. You see your life in time not off to one side.

2. Create

Being alone is the perfect time to create. There is no one there to stop the creation. It doesn’t matter what it is, whether it is art, writing, as long as it is meaningful and has purpose.

You have the perfect opportunity to do something productive instead of wasting your time on mindless consumption. To be truly creative, we need to be totally alone to be free to fully express ourselves.

3. Influence

The ability to be alone tunes you to your inner self. The only way to properly know you inner self is to free yourself of outside influences. If you are constantly surrounded by people, you can never come to conclusions on your own.

How are you supposed to know what you truly want if people influence your every decision? Your decision will affect you the most. Therefore, you should be the one to come to those conclusions on your own.

4. Learn

Being alone allows you to learn what you want. The internet is a great source of information; it would be a waste to spend all your time on social networks. It’s so easy to find information on something that interests you.

Being on your own allows you to learn about yourself. When you are alone you can find who you are and then explore your findings. The sooner you learn who you are, the sooner you will be content in yourself.

5. Embrace

When we are alone it is the only time we are free. Free from the influence of others, free to learn at your own will and free to create what your heart desires. Be free to follow your thoughts and chase after them. Be inspired by your solitude because it is truly great. Thought Catalog Logo Mark
