Stop Clinging To The Past Because It's Making You Miserable

Stop Clinging To The Past (Because It’s Making You Miserable)

You don’t want to cling to the past because it’s gone now. That might be hard for you to accept, but it’s the truth. Certain things are never going to be the same. It doesn’t matter what you do. It doesn’t matter how badly you want it. You can’t turn back time. You can’t erase what happened. What’s done is done.

You don’t want to cling to the past because the longer you spend thinking about yesterday, the less time you have to think about tomorrow. While there’s nothing you can do to change your past, you are in total control of your future. You get to decide where you head moving forward. You get to decide how to shape your tomorrows.

You don’t want to cling to the past because you’re viewing it with rose colored glasses. Your memories are lying to you. They’re tricking you into believing your past was a perfect place where nothing ever went wrong, but really, there were bad moments too. The people you miss once hurt you. The places you miss weren’t always paradise. It’s not that you’re remembering wrong. It’s that you’re only remembering the pieces you like best.

You don’t want to cling to the past because you’re not the same person you were back then. You’re growing every single day. You’re evolving into someone older, wiser, stronger. You don’t want to stop yourself from reaching your fullest potential. You don’t want to remain in the same place forever. You have to give yourself permission to move on with your life.

You don’t want to cling to the past because some people are temporary. Some people are better off left behind. Some people hurt you, and because they hurt you, they no longer deserve a place in your world. You aren’t supposed to keep in contact with them. You’re supposed to walk away from them. You’re supposed to put them in your rearview.

You don’t want to cling to the past because it’s familiar. Because taking a risk is too scary. Because you never know what’s going to happen when you decide to make a change. Your comfort zone might make you feel safe and warm and cozy in the moment, but it’s going to hold you back in the long run.

You don’t want to cling to the past because your best days aren’t actually behind you. They’re right in front of you. Even if you’re going through a hard time right now, you’re going to get through it. You’re going to love again. You’re going to experience happiness again. You’re going to feel like yourself again.

You don’t want to cling to the past because it’s important to live in the moment. You don’t want to be so hung up on the people you miss that you forget to appreciate the people who are by your side right now. You don’t want to take this moment for granted.

You don’t want to cling to the past because you’re not the same person you were yesterday, so you shouldn’t settle for the same things you settled for yesterday. You should keep striving to better your life and better yourself. You should continue moving forward because it’s dangerous to get stuck in one place. Thought Catalog Logo Mark
