When You Love Someone, You Would Never Abandon Them

When you love someone, you don’t abandon them when they’re going through a rough time. You don’t leave them alone to deal with their problems while you have fun with your friends. You don’t wait until they’re in a better mood to hang out again because you don’t want to handle their drama. You don’t disappear as soon as your relationship stops seeming so perfect.

When you love someone, you stick with them through it all. The losses. The tears. The confusion. You help them when they’re struggling. You let them lean on you when they cry. It doesn’t matter if their issue technically has nothing to do with you. If it’s bothering them, then it’s bothering you. Their pain is your pain because you’re a team. You’re in this together.

When you love someone, you don’t abandon them when helping would be an inconvenience for you. You don’t ditch them when a better opportunity comes along. You don’t ignore their texts when they need to talk, when they need to hear your voice, simply because you have other things you would rather be doing. When you love someone, you don’t push their problems to the background. You don’t leave them to handle their shit on their own. You don’t put more emphasis on yourself than on them.

When you love someone, you don’t abandon them when your relationship is going through a rough patch. You don’t slam the door and leave for hours on end, days on end, instead of working through your issues. You don’t go MIA because you would rather blow off steam at a bar than have a mature conversation with the person who is supposed to mean more to you than anybody else. When you love someone, you don’t make choices that are easier for you even though you know they would be harder on your partner. You don’t put them through hell while you’re out enjoying the good life.

When you love someone, you don’t abandon them under the assumption they’ll be perfectly fine. You don’t accuse them of being overdramatic or oversensitive. You don’t act like they’re making a big deal out of nothing. You don’t discredit their feelings, their fears, their struggles.

When you love someone, you don’t abandon them, because they trust you to do the right thing. You’re the person they’re supposed to be able to count on. You’re the person who is supposed to want what is best for them. You’re the person who is supposed to give a shit.

When you love someone, your relationship isn’t always going to be easy. Your person isn’t always going to be in a chirpy, happy-go-lucky mood. They aren’t always going to be on their best behavior. Sometimes, you’re going to see them bawling. Sometimes, you’re going to see them scared. Sometimes, you’re going to see them angry. But if you love each other and respect each other and treat each other right, it won’t matter what mood they’re in because you’ll be there no matter what. You won’t abandon them. You won’t let them go through anything on their own. You’ll stand by their side. You’ll help them through everything. Thought Catalog Logo Mark
